Your doctor may recommend different tests depending on your medical history and fertility goals. These may include hormonal tests, ultrasound, ovarian reserve assessment, tubal evaluation and semen analysis.

Not necessarily. Depending on the diagnosis, age, fertility history and other factors, your doctor may recommend options ranging from natural-cycle support and IUI to IVF or ICSI.

An IVF cycle generally involves ovarian stimulation and monitoring, egg retrieval, fertilisation in the laboratory, embryo development and, when appropriate, embryo transfer or cryopreservation.

Embryos are carefully monitored as they develop in the laboratory. Depending on the treatment plan, an embryo may be selected for transfer or suitable embryos may be cryopreserved for future use.

During embryo transfer, the selected embryo is placed into the uterus using a thin catheter. The procedure is generally brief, with your clinical team guiding you through the process.

Your clinic will advise you when to take the pregnancy test. Testing at the recommended time helps provide a more meaningful result and avoids confusion from testing too early.

Your care team may arrange follow-up blood tests and an ultrasound at the appropriate time to monitor the early pregnancy. Once appropriate, care can transition to routine antenatal care.
